It was a time for forestry innovation and industry collaboration during Carson Integrated’s technology showcase. Held June 24, 2021, at Carson’s company woodlot, Sandhill Woods, the outdoor event welcomed forestry sector consultants, government reps, and leaders from nearby mills for a day of tech demos, BBQ treats, and networking opportunities.
“This was the first time we’ve done something like this, and the idea was to showcase some of the new products that we and like-minded companies have been working on,” says Lorne Carson, founder of Carson Integrated, who runs the forestry consulting firm alongside his wife and professional biologist, Tara Jamison.
Those like-minded partners included Aerium Analytics, which held live demonstrations of its drone-based LiDAR technologies; and The Lorrnel Group, which took the opportunity to spotlight the processing and analysis of the point cloud data.
For its part, Carson Integrated treated attendees to live demonstrations of its terrestrial LiDAR technology, a ground-based alternative to aerial mapping designed to map large areas of land without having to leave the ground.

The event proved to be a success for Carson Integrated.
“It was a great opportunity for us to show what types of things we’re working on, and more importantly, to and get genuine feedback from the people who use these types of technologies to solve the problems they’re facing,” says Carson.
Several of the participants have since approached Carson Integrated to learn more about the LiDAR and mapping technologies on display. This has motivated Carson Integrated and its partners to make the showcase an annual event.
“We’re always looking for ways to start a discussion and get people in this industry excited about new technologies,” adds Carson.
