BAC Members:

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his new Cabinet today, with a number of new faces being added. This Cabinet will consist of the Prime Minister and 38 ministers.

Marie-Claude Bibeau (Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food), Francois-Philippe Champagne (Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry), and Carla Qualtrough (Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion) remain in the roles they held prior to the election.

Some new faces of note:

  • Jean-Yves Duclos, who previously served as President of the Treasury Board and Minister of Families, Children and Social Development becomes Minister of Health. Health has been split into two ministries – with Carolyn Bennett serving as Minister of Mental Health and Addictions and Associate Minister of Health.
  • Mona Fortier, former Associate Minister of Finance and Minister of Middle Class Prosperity becomes President of the Treasury Board. The role of Minister of Middle Class Prosperity has been eliminated.
  • Sean Fraser, who previously served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance, enters cabinet as Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship.
  • Jonathan Wilkinson becomes Minister of Natural Resources, with Steven Guilbeault replacing him as Minister of Environment and Climate Change.
  • Gudie Hutchings, a former Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministers of Women and Gender Equality and Small Business and Tourism becomes Minister of Rural Economic Development.
  • Seamus O’Regan moves from Natural Resources to take on the role of Minister of Labour.

Pascale St-Onge, Member of Parliament for Brome-Missisquoi and new Minister of Sport and Minister responsible for the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, is the only Cabinet member to have been first elected this sitting of Parliament. Randy Boissonnault, returning to parliament after a defeat in the 2019 election, has been appointed Minister of Tourism and Associate Minister of Finance. Long-time MP Marc Garneau, as well as Jim Carr and Bardish Chagger, are no longer in Cabinet.

In the coming weeks we expect to see the announcement of Parliamentary Secretaries and opposition critics, as well as ministerial mandate letters. The full list of new Cabinet members can be found here.
